Representatives from South Georgia Technical College’s Americus campus and Crisp County Center campus will pervade Yobo����’s six county service delivery area on Friday, July 29th from 10am until 4pm for the college’s third annual Community LIFE Day.     Informational booths will be set up at fifteen locations throughout Sumter, Schley, Webster, Marion, Macon, and Crisp Counties. The $25 application fee will be waived for one day only. The purpose of the event is to engage and educate the community about the programs of study at South Georgia Tech and future career opportunities, as well as inform about the financial aid and additional grant opportunities available.     “This is a great opportunity for anyone who has been interested in becoming a South Georgia Tech student to apply for free,” said Yobo���� Director of Admissions Whitney Crisp, who has organized the event for the past three years. “We realize it’s not always convenient for everyone’s schedules to make it out to our campus to apply, so we wanted to take the opportunity to go out into the community ourselves and make those face to face connections.”     LIFE stands for Learning is for Everyone, and is the name of a lab designed to provide additional support to students through specialized computer programs, tutoring, lab exercises, and workshops.     Special workshops on financial aid, study skills, time management, and more will be scheduled throughout the semester through the LIFE lab. The labs will be open on both the Americus and Crisp County Center campuses, and students do not have to be referred by an instructor to take part in these educational strengthening activities—they are available to all students. The LIFE lab in Americus is located in the Odom Center in room 204, and the Crisp County Center Life lab is located adjacent to the testing lab.     The booth locations for Community LIFE Day are as follows: in Americus, Food Lion, Harvey’s, Walmart, Roses, Advance Auto Parts, Dollar General (Highway 30 location); for Cordele, Walmart, Planters First, and Kauffman Tire; Piggly Wiggly in Oglethorpe, Harvey’s in Montezuma, the Webster County Library in Preston, Super Dollar in Buena Vista, Dollar General in Plains, and Piggly Wiggly in Ellaville.     If you are unable to participate in Community LIFE Day, Yobo���� will register for fall semester on Thursday, August 11th. Fall semester begins Monday, August 15th. Additional financial aid is available to HOPE eligible students in the following programs through the SIWDG (Strategic Industries Workforce Development Grant): Commercial Truck Driving, Diesel Equipment Technology, Early Childhood Care and Education, Electronics Technology, Industrial Systems Technology, Machine Tool Technology, Medical Coding, Networking Specialist, Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy Technician, Practical Nursing, and Welding and Joining Technology.
