Lady Jets fall to Point University in scrimmage

The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets took on the Point University Skyhawks from West Point, Georgia in a scrimmage Monday night but came up 10 points shy of a victory, 64 – 54 in the pre-season match-up.
It was a great learning experience for the young Lady Jets and head coach Jason Carpenter. The Lady Jets only returned three players from the 2023 – 2024 season and despite leading the Skyhawks for the majority of the game, the Skyhawks pulled ahead with 6:28 remaining in the final quarter and never looked back.

Jamiah Gregory, 23, of Marietta, Georgia, scored 14 points for the Lady Jets.
The Lady Jets were up by as many as 13 points in the first quarter and there were three lead changes over the 40-minutes of play. The Lady Jets were up 48 – 46 with 7:42 remaining in the game. The Skyhawks outscored the Lady Jets 18 – 6 in the final seven minutes of the contest to take the lead.
Sophomore Mio Sakano and freshman Jamiah Gregory, from Marietta, GA, led the team in scoring with 14 points each. Sophomore Enola Papin tossed in nine points but all of those came in the first half when she hit three three-pointers. Kaiya Carter of Houston, Texas, came away with seven points, all of which also came in the first half.
Mariia Ignatchenki scored four points and then Duilly Silva, Stephanie Salumu, and Maria Favero each scored two points. The Lady Jets only shot 33.9% from the field and hit 22.22% of their three-point attempts and 46.2% of their foul shots. The big difference was the 24 turnovers with 17 in the second half.
Shakira Wilson scored 24 points for the Lady Skyhawks and Lanee Edwards was the only other Point University player in double-digits with 11 points.
The Lady Jets travel to St. Petersburg, FL on November 1st to play in the St. Petersburg Classic against Miami Dade College and St. Petersburg College. They will then play in the Tallahassee Community College Classic on November 8 and 9 and match-up against Eastern Florida State and Tallahassee Community College. They play again in Florida on November 22 and 23 in the Daytona State Classic against Daytona State College and Hillsborough Community College.
The Jets will be at home on October 29th when they host the Dominican Republic Travel Team in a scrimmage at 6:30 p.m. in the Hangar.
